About ApprenTECHship

The ApprenTECHship is a programme designed to capture those students who might typically choose to go straight into the labour force from Secondary School. Oftentimes this may be driven by life choices to distance themselves from learning because school did not suit them, or because of pressures to help support their family or household by bringing in money sooner.

The AppprenTECHship program provides a new avenue for those who need paid work but may also be looking to do something other than working in the nearby labour-based role.

Apprenticeships today are still heavily focused on the traditional trades for which they were originally designed. These multiyear programs have often produced great tradespeople who have gone on to use this tacit knowledge for greater production. However, there are no current multi-year apprenticeship programs today that focus purely on technology and the functional roles such as software developer, solutions architect, and many others.

Therefore, introducing a 2-year program that provides the much-needed financial support as well as qualifications for the apprentice is a big step in the right direction. Furthermore, it will help toward creating a new avenue for those wanting to get into this exciting industry but are unsure how; whilst at the same time, add more human capital to an industry that is in dire need of people (not to mention diversity).

How is this different from a Skills Based Training course?

The ApprenTECHship is the first of its kind as it combines the Skills Based Training with self-paced learning and full-time employment all in one. This is only possible through the three-way partnership between the Apprentice, the Employer, and the Affiliated agency (Pasifika in I.T.)) ensuring that there is a clear direction stepped out for the apprentice.

How is this different from an Internship?

Unlike an internship, the Apprenticeship program has been designed as a two-year programme to help the apprentice build a deeper relationship with their employer whilst at the same time- develop new skills and qualifications relevant to their technology role.
